Cisco Network Support Commercial Home-Based Interactive Certification Training - Some Insights
If you're interested in Cisco training and you haven't worked with routers before, the right certification is a CCNA. This program has been designed to instruct individuals who want a working knowledge of routers. Many large organisations that have different locations need routers to connect their various different networks of computers to keep in contact with each other. The Internet is made up of vast numbers of routers also.
Gaining this type of qualification will mean it's likely you'll end up working for big organisations that have a wide geographical spread, but need to keep in touch. Other usual roles could be with an internet service provider. This specialised skill set is highly paid.
If routers are a new thing for you, then the CCNA course is the right level to aim for - at this stage avoid being tempted to do the CCNP. Once you've worked for a few years, you can decide if CCNP is something you want to do.
Some training providers only provide basic 9am till 6pm support (maybe a little earlier or later on certain days); not many go late into the evening (after 8-9pm) or cover weekends properly. Be wary of any training providers that use messaging services 'out-of-hours' - where an advisor will call back during normal office hours. It's not a lot of help when you've got study issues and need help now.
Be on the lookout for colleges that have multiple support offices across multiple time-zones. Every one of them needs to be seamlessly combined to provide a single interface and also access round-the-clock, when it's convenient for you, with no hassle. Don't ever make the mistake of taking second best with the quality of your support. The vast majority of would-be IT professionals who give up, are in that situation because of a lack of support.
A competent and specialised advisor (vs a salesman) will talk through your current level of ability and experience. There is no other way of understanding the point at which you need to start your studies. Sometimes, the level to start at for a student experienced in some areas can be largely different to someone without. Consider starting with some basic PC skills training first. Beginning there can make your learning curve a little less steep.
It's quite a normal occurrence for students not to check on a painfully important area - the way the company breaks up the courseware, and into what particular chunks. Often, you will purchase a course requiring 1-3 years study and get posted one section at a time - from one exam to the next. While this may sound logical on one level, consider this: Often, the staged breakdown offered by the provider doesn't suit. You may find it a stretch to finalise all the modules inside their defined time-scales?
For maximum flexibility and safety, most students now choose to make sure that every element of their training is delivered immediately, and not in stages. That means it's down to you how fast or slow and in what order you'd like to work.
